I’m Hovhannes. Photography is the path I chose to connect with other people, both by working with many talented artists and the audience, whom I can speak to through visual images.
Starting my path in the movie directing faculty, something felt not organic to me, and I almost forgot about art for a couple of years while trying to make money and become independent. But the desire to make visually stunning images was always in my head and never left me.
So I started photographing regular people, and then a turning point happened when I shot professional fashion models, which felt so satisfying. I fell in love with their aesthetics, movements, and facial expressions.
But something felt insufficient, only partially correct. A visually perfect shot is not as important as telling a story through it.
For instance, now I see a bunch of movies with good lighting and color correction, but with no meaning or purpose at all.
So I found the true essence of art only when I added stories to my pictures. Not just stories of other people or something I read about, but my own feelings and thoughts.
The main things that I try to convey through my lens are melancholy and despair, which have followed me from childhood to this day. Probably that’s what distinguishes artists from other people — the inner urge to express their feelings through different forms of performance.
